SHOCKING: Accused arsonist recorded inside New Brunswick church
The arson at Saint-Simon's historic church is the most serious church burning case Rebel News has covered, and the shocking video filmed by the accused suspect reveals potential motivations behind the attack — and raises questions about why it's being ignored by the media and politicians.
Accused arsonist Gilles Mallet filmed himself inside the Saint-Simon church hours before it burned to the ground. We have obtained that video and are publishing it today.
In the video, Mallet, 68, speaks in French, directly to the camera, and directly to his own parishioners. He tells them this will be the last time he walks into this church before adding the truth has to come out. He tells everyone he loves them, then asks for forgiveness.
Hours later, the church was ashes.
This is the most serious church arson case Rebel News has ever covered.
But why is no one else in this country chasing it? More than 130 churches have been burned or vandalized across Canada since 2021, with no national task force assembled, no inquiry held and barely a word spoken from the politicians who never miss a chance to condemn hate against anyone else.
If a hundred Muslim mosques or Sikh temples had burned, there would be a federal task force and a prime ministerial address by now. Instead, there's silence, and a growing pile of ashes where Christian churches used to stand.
Mallet is back in court on September 14.
BACKGROUND:
On August 24, 2026, the Saint-Simon Catholic Church on New Brunswick's Acadian Peninsula — a historic wooden structure built in 1917 and believed to be the largest of its kind in the province — was burned to the ground in the early hours of the morning.
The RCMP arrested Gilles Mallet, 68, a local parishioner from Saint-Simon itself, and charged him with arson.
Rebel News's subsequent investigation uncovered that Mallet had spent years living in an Indigenous activist community near Lillooet, B.C., where he appears to have been immersed in anti-Christian and anti-pipeline ideology — posting tributes to a jailed Trans Mountain pipeline protester and wearing the activist slogan "Warrior Up" in photographs.
Most disturbingly, a video of the church burning posted to Mallet's Facebook circle includes a voice saying the pipeline protester's name followed by the words "your wish has come true."

This event, for some including the arsonist a “necessary” action, for other maybe scary, and for some total irrelevant, depicts a fundamental moral crisis in our contemporary society. It is a direct attack to Christianity based on fabricated mainstream media campaigns of so called Christian atrocities never confirmed in the real world. These attacks are starting to manifest like a replica of Christendom during the immoral dictatorial and ruthless ruling of the most decadent Roman emperors in the first three centuries A.D. We may associate this with the change of A.D. (from Latin Anno Domini) to C. E. (Common Era) found in many nowadays historical references. The latter was an is a term widely used in communist countries to avoid mentioning the Lord = Dominus. I am asking other people worshiping a Divine Authority: who do you think will be next?
