Why were the Hamilton Police apparently uninterested in investigating a potential crime scene?
Jay Bannister was instructed to call bylaw after seeing a potential crime scene in Hamilton.
The other day, Jay Bannister looked out the window of his home situated in a nice neighbourhood of Hamilton, Ont. And he spotted a most unusual sight – namely, a black Honda Civic that was heavily damaged. What’s more, the car was parked on the wrong side of the road. Outside the driver’s side door on the pavement were the car keys for the Honda and a hammer that had red liquid on it (blood?)
Needless to say, the car looked more than suspicious. In fact, it had all the hallmarks of a potential crime scene.
And Bannister should know about crime scenes: he’s an ex-Toronto Police officer who now runs the superb website Mad Lab Press.
As the days went by, the car remained immobile. In one sense, given that the car keys were there for the taking, it’s almost a miracle that the vehicle wasn’t stolen given Hamilton’s surging crime rate.
Bannister – as well as other neighbours – called Hamilton Police asking them to investigate. And even though there is a police station located about a kilometre away, incredibly, the cops said they weren’t interested in popping by for a look. Bannister was told to call bylaw instead. He did so. But when he explained the scenario to the bylaw officer, the bylaw officer said this sounded like a job for… the police!
In any event, bylaw finally dropped by on two occasions. The first time was to give the abandoned car a parking ticket. The second time was to place a notice under a wiper blade noting that if the car wasn’t removed, it would be towed away.
Of note, when Rebel News visited the street last week to interview Bannister, the car was indeed towed away the following day. By this point it had been on the street for nine days.
But the question arises: why were the police apparently not interested in investigating this matter given the number of red flags indicating potential foul play?
Rebel News reached out to Hamilton Police for answers, but at the time of publication we had yet to receive a response.
We will follow up in the days ahead. Due to the damage, it wasn’t possible to open the car’s trunk. Let us collectively hope there’s no nasty surprise waiting inside…
