'You were right': UK Foreign Secretary backs anti-Israel mob
National Post columnist Barbara Kay joined Ezra Levant to discuss how the Islamification of the West is influencing politics.
Words have a way of becoming actions. That was Ezra Levant's thesis on Tuesday's Ezra Levant Show. Say something long enough, whether it's that man is guilty of climate change or that we're all standing on stolen land, and eventually someone calls your bluff. "If you say it, you mean it," Ezra said. "If you mean it, then do it."
His guest, National Post columnist Barbara Kay, recently wrote an essay titled "Shame on the UN for commemorating 25 years of toxic anti-Zionism." She explained that the 2001 Durban conference was an attempt to resurrect the UN's 1975 "Zionism is racism" resolution, which had been rescinded in 1991.
"That whole conference was like a three-week Kristallnacht," she said. Its NGO forum displayed pictures of Adolf Hitler and sold copies of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. The BDS movement was born there.
"Durban was the kind of official start of the use of words, you know, apartheid, genocide, war crimes," Kay said. "Nowadays, you can say anything you want about Israel because it doesn't have to be true." The one piece of good news: fewer countries attend each anniversary. This year, 46 stayed away.
Ezra argued attendance hardly matters anymore, because the ideas have gone mainstream. His example was UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband, who told the Labour Party conference that Britain will call out "ethnic cleansing by the settler terrorists," ban imports from settlements and disrupt British finance and construction linked to them. Then he addressed the millions who marched against Israel: "We hear you. You were right."
Ezra called it the most radical speech he has ever heard from a Western ally. Miliband used the word terrorist for Israelis but never for Hamas, whose charter calls for the extinction of Jews everywhere. Kay added that Israel's administration of Area C is consistent with international law, as Natasha Hausdorff has repeatedly explained, while areas A and B are run by the Palestinian Authority.
Ezra then played a clip of Labour MP Tahir Ali asking in Parliament whether it was time for military action against Israel. That, Ezra argued, explains Miliband's speech. In cities with large Muslim populations, Labour fears losing seats to the Greens and to the pro-Gaza independents. "It was a foreign policy, but it was really a domestic policy," he said.
Kay had little patience for Jewish politicians like Miliband and Green Party leader Zack Polanski who invoke their heritage while denouncing Israel. "These are, I guess we should call them JINOs, you know, Jews in name only," she said. "They're really bad news."
