Stand With David Menzies!

Why was David Menzies arrested?

On Sunday, November 10, 2024 Rebel News journalist David Menzies was arrested by Toronto Police while covering a peaceful weekly pro-Israel rally for the return of Israeli hostages — and the counter-protest by pro-Hamas agitators in North Toronto.

David was doing journalism — asking questions of the pro-Hamas agitators who have been invading the Jewish neighbourhood with masks, antisemitic slogans and intimidation.

Instead of stopping them, Toronto Police handcuffed David and carted him away — because the extremists demanded it.

Police acted as bodyguards for the pro-Hamas hooligans, blocking off the area for them and arresting anyone who tried to speak with them — or even walk on the public sidewalk.

The police were taking instructions from the Hamas activists. Just a few months ago, Toronto Police even brought Tim Hortons coffee to Hamas supporters blocking a residential street in a Jewish neighbourhood.

This time they actually arrested our reporter — slammed him on the hood of a police car and handcuffed him.

Who are the pro-Hamas hooligans?

Since immediately after the Hamas attacks of October 7, 2023, masked Hamas supporters have been entering Toronto Jewish neighbourhoods to intimidate residents.

They have no permits and they hide their identities. They bring Nazi swastikas and chant for violent intifada. Most aren’t even Canadian citizens.

They are foreign-funded thugs staging intimidation against Canadian Jews — across from a peaceful pro-Israel and pro-Canada rally.

Why Rebel News is fighting this

This is not only an attack on David — it is an attack on free press and on Jewish Canadians.

Toronto Police are not just failing to stop the antisemitic mobs — they are now enforcing the will of the mob and punishing reporters who expose it.

We have already retained legal counsel and we are preparing to fight back.

We live in Toronto, not Gaza. Canadians have the right to walk on the sidewalk — no mob and no “woke” police officer gets to overrule the law.

This isn't the first time

This is not the first time police have targeted David for doing journalism.

In 2020, while covering a Rogers Hometown Hockey taping, David attempted to question Ron MacLean on a public street about the backlash to Don Cherry’s firing. Instead of allowing a journalist to ask questions, officers from York Regional Police physically restrained David — shoving him, putting him in a bear hug and removing him from the scene for the “crime” of doing journalism in public. Rebel News sued over that incident — and we continue to fight to hold police accountable in court.

David Menzies was illegally arrested by Toronto Police when he was covering a Hamas hate march. And then help us go on the offensive, by suing the police for violating David’s civil rights. David stands up for all of us. Please Stand With David and help him in his hour of need.

David Menzies is out of line. He may not deserve to be arrested but he should have been removed from the protest for sure. His anger and actions overshadow his message. He could be unboised by going to both sides instead of making it about fighting the “enemy”. Dirty journalsim sells eyeballs and cheapens Rebel.
