Don't Get Railroaded!

Ottawa is pressing ahead with the ALTO high-speed rail project — a proposed 300 km/h line linking Toronto to Quebec City at an estimated cost of $90 billion — despite mounting concerns about land expropriation, farmland disruption, oversight, and the risk of massive cost overruns.

Rebel News is investigating every angle of this controversial megaproject: who benefits, who pays, and who could lose their land along the proposed corridor.

On this page, you’ll find our latest reports, updates from affected communities, and in-depth analysis — and you can add your name to the petition calling for transparency, accountability, and a halt to the Alto rail line before irreversible decisions are made.

Ottawa is advancing ALTO — a proposed 300 km/h rail line from Toronto to Quebec City — with a projected cost of $90 billion and no guarantee that'll be the end of it.

The plan would carve a 1,000-kilometre corridor up to 60 metres wide through productive farmland and private property, dividing communities and affecting families who receive little to no benefit. In many stretches, there are no rural stations planned at all.

Other megaprojects have spiralled in cost and delay. Meanwhile, consultations are closing quickly, and concerns remain about expropriation, oversight, and accountability.

Before billions more are committed and land is permanently disrupted, Canadians deserve transparency and a full public debate.

In the last 15 years of Liberal rule could someone please tell me a project of $1 billion or more that has actually come in on time or on schedule?
Heck go back 30 years, I don’t think any government is capable of bringing anything in on time or on schedule.
I believe that this is basically aimed at sewing up the Quebec vote for the next election . Bombardier is based in Quebec and they for sure will be supplying trains. A large majority of the jobs will be in Quebec and I am sure a lot of the engineering will be carried out in Quebec.
I cannot see how this could possibly deliver return on investment.
Perhaps some new technologies would be developed but I have a feeling that it will just be a giant black hole.

On the low estimate, that’s roughly $90M/km to save a few hours of travel time.
What would happen if a 300 km/hr train were to hit a cow or other large animal that managed to get onto the tracks?

California was a scam. Is this too? Why Toronto to Quesbec City? How about high speed rail from Toronto to the west coast? Why do we need this rail line?
It just doesn’t make sense to me, unless it is another scam involving Trudeau and SNC Lavalin…with Carney on the side. Come on…this is BS, and a total rip-off for Canadians. Are Canadians paying for this scam? Fraud once more.

They have one of these in California. The first mile cost something around a billion and the project stopped. Perhaps we can get off with only a billion!
