Protect Religious Freedom!
Mark Carney’s Liberals have struck a deal with the Bloc Québécois to remove the religious-belief exemption from Canada’s hate-speech laws — the final safeguard preventing ordinary Christian, Jewish, and other religious teaching from being criminalized. Bill C-9 dismantles protections for those acting on sincere faith, effectively redefining traditional beliefs as “hate.”
This is intentional — and it targets people the government already treats as political opponents. They call it “safety” and “stopping hate,” but its real purpose is silencing faith.
The same government that amplified an unverified “mass grave” story — fueling a national firestorm that led to more than 100 church burnings — now seeks to criminalize the prayers of the very communities harmed. They ignored the arson but insist doctrine is the problem.
At the same time, weekly extremist demonstrations across Canada go unchecked, while peaceful religious groups are cast as threats. Volunteers who run coat drives, build playgrounds, and teach scripture are treated as offenders, even as hate-marchers face no scrutiny.
The Criminal Code already prohibits violence and genocide. Bill C-9 is not a public-safety measure; it is a political weapon aimed at Christians, Jews, parents, and anyone who believes moral authority exists beyond the state.
We have seen this pattern before. During COVID, pastors were jailed, churches padlocked, and worship treated as a crime. With new powers targeting “religiously motivated” speech, the same abuses will return.
Bill C-9 won’t stop hate. It will criminalize scripture — and it must be defeated.
